When you take a stand
you are going to have a head-on collision
When you take a stand
you are going to have a head-on collision
Tell it to them like it is in the Bible,
and if they want to argue about it
tell them to argue with GOD.
Our understanding should come from the Word of God. Psa_119:169 TAU. Let my cry come near before thee, O LORD: give me understanding according to thy word. We are told to study the word and not trust our own understanding. Pro_3:5 Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. Have you heard that God has exalted His Word above His Name? Yes that is true. Psa_138:2 I will worship toward thy holy temple, and praise thy name for thy lovingkindness and for thy truth: for thou hast magnified thy word above all thy name. Do you know what that means? We better get it right.
There are many today that try to destroy God and His Word. A declaration that God does not exist does not cause God to go away or diminish. Psalm 14:1 states, “The fool hath said in his heart, There is no God. They are corrupt, they have done abominable works, there is none that doeth good. I see the handy work of God all around me. Where is the proof there is no God? The theories of how earth and animals and men has never been able to prove evolution. When man “thinks” he has it figured out, then a flaw to “rational thinking” shows the impossibility and therefore another “theory” has to be brought into play.
Since there is a God that has created all things, He must have a desire to communicate to man. Leviticus 1:1,2 reveals that God used Moses as His spokesman to the children of Israel. Jeremiah 1:4 tells us that God sent His Word to Jeremiah and Jeremiah 1:5 reveals to us that God said to Jeremiah – “Before I formed thee in the belly I knew thee; and before thou camest forth out of the womb I sanctified thee, and I ordained thee a prophet unto the nations. We find Revelation 1:1 where John makes the undisputed claim that God’s word was given to Him.
God wants to communicate His Words to us and He does not want His Word changed at the whim of man therefore God gave this warning. Moses, the first writer of the Bible gave a warning in Deuteronomy 12:32 – What thing soever I command you, observe to do it: thou shalt not add thereto, nor diminish from it. God makes sure that this warning can be misconstrued to only apply to the Old Testament by adding a warning in the book of Revelation chapter 22 verses 18 and 19 – For I testify unto every man that heareth the words of the prophecy of this book, If any man shall add unto these things, God shall add unto him the plagues that are written in this book:
19 And if any man shall take away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part out of the book of life, and out of the holy city, and from the things which are written in this book. Oh yes, just incase this did not register with some people, he made this statement in Proverbs 30:5,6 – Every word of God is pure: he is a shield unto them that put their trust in him. 6 Add thou not unto his words, lest he reprove thee, and thou be found a liar. God didn’t stop there The first book of the New Testament, Matthew records a very important message for those that think God’s Word would be lost with the passage of time.
Mat 5:18 For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled. What this should mean to us is very simple. Be sure you know what the scripture says. Don’t twist it, change it or take it out f context.
Satan’s greatest weapon is man’s ignorance of GOD’s Word.
And you shall know the truth and the truth shall set you free. – John 8:32
MAY MISS THE KINGDOM BUILT
Parson to Person
long ago, God forged a mighty nation of Hebrew people enslaved in
Egypt. He delivered them, blessed them, and brought them to the
Promised Land. Extraordinary victories, great miracles, and
provisions attributable only to God’s blessings were embedded into
their minds and hearts, but Judges tells the repetitious story of the
propensity of men to follow the flesh instead of God. “A new
generation arose that knew not God.” Sadly, men have not
Fast forward! Out of the deadly fires of persecution in the Inquisition, God delivered His people by opening up the Western Hemisphere in general and America in particular for their unparalleled freedom and growth. Through famine, wars, and civil turmoil, God blessed His churches in this new land. It was then that the god of this world laid plans to inundate the nation with material things far removed from the support of its Gross National Product by printing baseless script to direct faith to Caesar. Misled churches hailed this as blessings from above.
Simply put, it is easier, and highly tempting, to follow the dictates of the flesh. Soon, churches, which flourished briefly in inflated abundance, found unwittingly that materialism had substituted God. Youth then failed to follow the faith of their fathers. Pulpits became filled with stand-up comedians and CEO’s of social clubs. Services were scaled down. Revivals ceased. God was removed from public prayers and schools. Innocent lives were butchered on demand by the millions. Churches became even more moderate, bowing to a social agenda in an ever-losing battle for the attention of the masses.
At last, some have awakened to ask why the rolls are full, but the pews are empty? It is the continuing last state of churches whose members are detached from the spirit and mission of the church. Oh, but those roll members are indeed attached. They are attached to their detachment, and few are open to change. Churches previously offering men spiritual salvation and truth, sank in their deluded dream of individual kingdom-building, and panic of material debts. So gravitating to social programs to compete, they ultimately found themselves inadequate to compete materially in a God forsaken religious world, or able to deal properly and spiritually with a people who are minus an ear for spiritual things, not unlike the society of Lot’s day. Church-house padlocks are now becoming common. What a crazy course of history! What foolish decisions by spiritual institutions! Caring ministers and churches now cry and preach to a people firmly attached. . . to spiritual detachment! Evermore then is the cry heard: “Even so, come quickly Lord Jesus.”
April 26 – Lack of Knowledge
Hosea 4:6 My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge: because thou hast rejected knowledge, I will also reject thee, that thou shalt be no priest to me: seeing thou hast forgotten the law of thy God, I will also forget thy children.
The great tragedy today is a Lack of knowledge. We have simplified our knowledge of the Bible to a few simple slogans that express a small amount of knowledge about the Bible, God, Christ and the life we are to lead. We have not only dumbed down the secular education today but have also dumbed down Christian education. We have reduced the knowledge and discussion to a few favorite slogans leaving out the teachings that do not appeal to the masses. We are not teaching about the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. We are not teaching the truths of the Church and what a Church is and the Churches responsibilities as the administrator of the kingdom of God.
This Biblical Knowledge has been rejected because it would convict. It has not only been rejected but also has been ridiculed as something that is not applicable to today’s lifestyle. This is a term that simply says, “I do not want to live a separated life from the world.” “I want to claim to be a Christian and yet do worldly things and have worldly attitudes.” There is a rejection today of a separated life that stands out and is outstanding.
God said, “I will also reject thee.” This was written to Israel, yet is just as applicable today as it was in Hosea’s day. The claim is that Israel has forgotten the law of God. That is true today also. We are not under the law of Moses but we are under God’s law of “study to show thy self approved.” We are under the law of “love thy neighbor as thyself.” We are under the law of “forsake not the assembling of yourselves together.” We are under the law of “put off concerning the former conversation the old man.” We have the law of holiness, “so be ye holy in all manner of conversation.”
Here is a warning for this day as it was in the days of Israel. I will forget thy children. Certainly, we see that warning coming to fruition today. We are losing our children to the world. When the world is brought into the Church, we lose the children to the world. Church truths are no longer taught to our children. They are certainly involved in activities yet the shallowing teaching of the Word of God enables them to embrace some of the sinful practices of the word. Then they stray. What a mess we have created, trying to entertain to create interest instead of driving the teaching home for conviction.
May we get back to teaching the Word.
April 24 – The Whole Counsel of God.
Acts 20:27 For I have not shunned to declare unto you all the counsel of God.
28 Take heed therefore unto yourselves, and to all the flock, over the which the Holy Ghost hath made you overseers, to feed the church of God, which he hath purchased with his own blood.
29 For I know this, that after my departing shall grievous wolves enter in among you, not sparing the flock.
30 Also of your own selves shall men arise, speaking perverse things, to draw away disciples after them.
We are faced with those that would alter or change the Word of God. There are those that take away from the Word and those that add to the Word. The idea of the term to “take heed” is to pay attention to what some have to say. We are to compare what they say, not to man’s reasoning or logic, but to what the Bible has to say.
Each minister has been given a charge to feed the Church of God. I have had the occasion to call a Church that was without a pastor and has asked them, “can you describe the Church that Jesus built?” The answer, “we don’t know what you are talking about.” This is a sad situation to be confronted with. Notice the term that He uses in reference to the Church, “he hath purchased with His own blood.” I believe that the whole counsel of God is important to our Lord. We should be teaching the people.
Grievous wolves will enter. We see that happening today. I compare them to leaches. They are trying to thrive from the work of others. Men that go astray from the truth or leave out or add to the Word and mislead the people of God. Men that set themselves in a place of trust to usurp the teachings of past faithful men that labored and sacrificed on behalf of that Church.
These are men from our midst that have gone astray after a Jezebel and destroy the work that God called faithful men have built. They come in the guise of greater knowledge and a better understanding or later findings. These are the coverings they use to take away the Lord’s Church from the paths of truth. They belittle the work of those that have gone before and built the work that they now pastor.
Preach the whole counsel of God.
APRIL 1 – Truth and Righteousness
Psalm 85:11 Truth shall spring out of the earth; and righteousness shall look down from heaven.
This is a beautiful picture of the meeting between truth and righteousness. Truth from the earth? Who would have thought of such a thing? Let me reference something that I am a witness to. A young man who was at the least an agnostic went to college and took horticulture. As he learned about plants and the intricacies of plant growth and plant food he finally saw that this could not happen by chance. He became convinced that there is a God. I must relate that he is saved. The truth came out of the ground.
Isaiah 45:8 Drop down, ye heavens, from above, and let the skies pour down righteousness: let the earth open, and let them bring forth salvation, and let righteousness spring up together; I the LORD have created it.
There is a testimony in the creation of God that testifies to truth and salvation. We have an illustration in the New Testament of seed sown in the ground and life from that seed. Here is truth derived from the earth in the seed re-generating into life. I Corinthians 15 speaks of the body as seed and sown in the ground and will come forth a new body. Truth from the earth.
Now we have the righteousness from heaven. Directly from God. Righteousness and truth meet together. We know this righteousness is of God because Romans 1:17 speaks of the righteousness of God. Romans 1:20 speaks of the invisible things of Him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made…. This creation reveals that there is a God and reveals that truth of salvation for men. The righteousness of God comes down to meet truth and convict man of that need of renewal, that need to be born again to experience everlasting life. We are told that even the rocks would cry out as a witness to the Savior and our need.
What a wonderful witness. May we be an even greater witness for our Lord.
MARCH 15 – An Attitude of Worship
Ecclesiastes 5:1 Keep thy foot when thou goest to the house of God, and be more ready to hear, than to give the sacrifice of fools: for they consider not that they do evil.
2 Be not rash with thy mouth, and let not thine heart be hasty to utter any thing before God: for God is in heaven, and thou upon earth: therefore let thy words be few.
Keep thy foot when thou goest to the house of God. We have a righteous and Holy God that wants to be worshiped. The question that comes to mind is, do we worship Him in the manner we want or in the manner that God wants? What type of worship does God want? We have the Old Testament as an example unless we would want to disregard it. In that case, just buy a New Testament and ignore the Old Testament. Keep thy foot, is an interesting statement as it relates to the house of God. Moses at the burning bush was called upon to take off his shoes because he was walking on Holy Ground. Joshua was commanded to “Loose thy shoe from off they foot.” The reason was given that the ground he walked on was Holy Ground.
This tells us there is a prescribed way of worship. Today we have an attitude that if we gather and do our “thing” that God has to accept what we want to call worship. The tabernacle and temple worship was very strictly regulated in the way and method of approaching God. The New Testament gives us hints of what not to do in worship. The New Testament calls for us to “Let all things be done unto edifying.” Notice that this is Holy Ground when we come into the presence of God. There are many things that are done today that is called worship that is not what God calls for.
Be ready to hear. This has always been a problem in our day and age. Notice, “the sacrifice of fools.” We would say that a particular denomination is giving the sacrifice of fools because they believe in “good works” for salvation. We examine our method, our purpose and our heart in worship. Are we there to offer what we want to offer or are we there to offer unto God what He wants offered? Are we there to ease our own mind about being holy before God and leave saying to ourselves, there, I have done what was required and then live like the world until the next time we decide to worship?
For they consider not that they do evil. This is devastating to some methods of worship. This calls an attempt to worship God that is contrary to what He wants is called evil. This puts some well-meaning people in a position that they would not imagine being in.
The reverence that God wants is often confused with emotionalism. There should be a reverence as demonstrated by Israel when they would not even approach the foot of the mountain because of a Holy God. There should be that thought of sanctifying ourselves before we come into the presence of God. May we worship God in spirit and in truth.
How is your worship? Should we not consider what God wants?
MARCH 10 – Are we prepared to do battle.
1Sa 17:37 David said moreover, The LORD that delivered me out of the paw of the lion, and out of the paw of the bear, he will deliver me out of the hand of this Philistine. And Saul said unto David, Go, and the LORD be with thee.
David did not go into battle unprepared. He had faith in the deliverance that God would provide. How did David know about God’s deliverance? Many hours with the sheep and pondering the ways of God. He came prepared. His faith was only a partial preparation. We need to see the rest of his preparation. We know his weapon was a sling and he was very familiar with it. We know as he crossed the brook he took 5 smooth stones. Outwardly that was his only preparation.
He had his helmet of salvation. This had already been provided as a free gift of God. We find in Psalm 51, he cried unto the Lord to restore the JOY of THY salvation. He wore the helmet of salvation into the battle. His loins were girt about with truth. This could be what we are missing today. Minimizing some truths and emphasizing others. David knew there was one true God. We find in Davids writings much of truth that we would call doctrine. Timothy was exhorted by Paul to teach others what Paul had taught him. II Tim. 2:2. Paul did not lessen any truth. We are called to study. The Great Commission says to teach them all things. These are defensive weapons.
Our help in conflict or battle is the Lord and the shield of faith. David did not have a physical shield but the Lord went before him. It is called the shield of faith. He had faith the Lord would deliver the victory. This faith was buttressed with pray. In my mind’s eye, I can see David as darkness begins to cover the land and the sheep start bedding down. The quietness that descends and soft simmering glow of the stars as they start shining and the moon filters down with its gentle shining. David sitting and gazing at the great and grand expanse of heaven and the beauty of the mountains that were outlined. The prayers that would proceed from those youthful lips for a safe that was had. Prayers for tomorrow. The prayers that would be utter for his nation and his family. No doubt, David spent much time talking to God.
He was prepared for battle. May we as children of God become bedrock anchored in the love of God and His truth. May we drive new converts to bedrock in truth and include our youth.
