Parson to Person

Wow! Inflation is worse than figured! Not long ago it was a penny for your thoughts! So how could thoughts be worth a million dollars? First, thoughts have to be forwarded into action, so, think with me and I will show you how it can happen.
I have asked several groups of people if they knew the exacted price from those who run over a chicken in Germany. None knew. The guilty party not only pays for the chicken, but also for all the eggs it may have laid over its lifetime. That is considered the value of the chicken. This principle applies across the board of life.
When anyone places a dollar in the offering plates at church, he not only gives up the dollar, but also the interest it would have earned over his lifetime. That is the value of a dollar.
So suppose one tithes his income, or more, for a lifetime. Also consider that each dollar given might have earned an average of six percent annually over his years. If those tithes are $50, $100, $200 per week, and that was begun in early to midlife, just do the math. It becomes astronomical. Now consider that Jesus said that whatever one gives up (houses, lands, etc.) he will receive a hundredfold, Matt 19:29. Now multiply your astronomical number by 100. The world has never offered such an investment return, and material things even as fine as His, are the very least of the Lord’s offerings.
Two things must combine here: first, one’s heart, then his treasure. Jesus taught us that where one’s treasure is, there will his heart be also, Luke 12:34. Some complain that they cannot afford to give such amounts. That indicates a heart problem. Everyone must remember that the gold and silver; the cattle of a thousand hills; yes, the earth itself, and all therein; the money, too, belongs to the Lord, Psm. 50:10, 24:1, Hag. 2:8, I Cor. 10:26. He who demanded the tithe under the Mosaic Law provides opportunity for us all under grace to exceed that in church support, benevolence, mission work, and reaching out to others in need. Such are opportunities rather than obligations, and the cheerful giver who seizes upon them is indeed wise. He is accumulating great treasure in heaven which is both secure and eternal. Put into proper action a million dollars may be a pittance for your thoughts!

We have become a nation of no responsibility. We do not want to be responsible for the choices we make. We do not want to be responsible to support and care for ourselves. We certainly do not want to be responsible for mistakes we make.

This reminds me of a young man that was being interviewed for a job and the interviewer asked this young man “are you responsible”” The young man replied, “very much so, my last job, anything that went wrong, they said I was responsible.”

We are put by God into a family whose purpose is to raise us in the “nurture and admonition of the Lord,”They also are to bring us to the point of maturity, where I decisions will be deliberate and wise. My how we fail in this today. I pastored a man and his wife that had attained the age of 90 years old. Here is what he related to me about his youth. By the age of 11 he was barely able to reach the handles of the plow. Now he was responsible for plowing a field with a mule and keeping the rows straight. He was expected to put in a full day of work. The parents are not being responsible to raise heavenly citizens today and therefore our children are not responsible citizens any more.

We have neglected to teach our children that the Bible teaches, that “one will not work will not eat.” I remember the day when a person might be thrown on government support temporarily but the shame caused them to redouble their effort to be self-sustaining. Today day there is no shame in living off of other people. They are on the government dole, some not realizing that government does not have money. It is their neighbor that earned that money. Now I am not talking about injured, handicapped or the elderly that is on Social Security. I am talking about healthy, able-bodied people. They have not learned responsibility for self or family.

Many will not accept responsibility for the choices they make. A person I worked with years ago was complaining about men and there was not a good man around. My statement to her was – would you look for steak in the hamburger section – why no. So why do you search for fine, considerate, upstanding men among the dead beats. This is the situation today. Flash attracts. When flash attracts people rush to the flash. Soon the flash is out, the thrill and beauty is gone and destruction is left behind. Having not looked far enough down the road to see what would transpire, people experience devastation in choices and decisions. What choices and decisions we make have to be tempered by looking at results down the road. This is a responsibility in governing our life by right decisions. Take responsibility in decisions.

Having managed a business and owned my own business, I appreciate a person that steps up and says I am responsible for that mistake. When we deny our mistakes, we lie and God hates a liar. Those that admit mistakes are more easily forgiven. They will be corrected and instructed but punishment will be less than a person that lies about mistakes. We should be responsible in accepting our mistakes and owning them.

We teach responsibility here because we are ultimately responsible to the LORD.

There are many confused ideas about God. To many, God is nature, an idea, a good principle, even man himself. There is one true God. We declare Him much as did Paul (Acts 17:22,23).

Know ye that the Lord he is God; it is he that hath made us, and not we ourselves” (Psalm 100:3).

John 3:16 declares that God is a person. He is the supreme ruler of the universe and has life in Himself (John 5:26).

He is not IN everything but He IS everywhere. I Kings 8:27: “But will God indeed dwell on the earth? Behold, the heaven and heaven of heavens cannot contain thee.” (See: Isaiah 66:1; Psalm 139:7-10.)

  1. GOD IS OMNISCIENT. (SEE PSALM 139:11; JOB 34:21,22)

God’s omniscience enabled Him to see the end from the beginning of the world and plan for every event of time. “Known unto God are all his works from the beginning of the world” (Acts 15:18). God foreknew a man’s name and what he would do some 350 years before it came to pass (I Kings 13:1-3; II Kings 23:15,16).

His power is seen in creation, “Let all the earth feat the Lord, let all the inhabitants of the world stand in awe of him. For he spoke and it was done: he commanded and it stood fast” (Psalm 33:8,9).

His power was manifest in Sodom and Gomorrah. In the flood. In Egypt.

(Psalm 90:2; Isaiah 40:28).

  1. GOD IS A TRIUNE BEING. (I JOHN 5:7; MATTHEW 28:19,20).

God is manifest in three ways:

    1. Spirit (John 4:24).

    2. Intelligence (Psalm 147:5).

    3. Material (John 1:14,18; Colossians 2:9).

The THREE were manifest at the baptism of Jesus (Luke 3:22; I Timothy 3:16).

    1. God the Father willed our salvation in eternity.

      1. In eternity He provided for our salvation (Revelations 13:8; Ephesians 1:4).

      2. In time He sent His Son to be offered (John 1:14,29).

      3. In time His Son gave His life a ransom for all (Timothy 1:5,6).

    1. The Son purchased our redemption. In eternity he accepted the role of redeemer (Revelations 13:8; I Peter 1:18-20). In time He executed the foreordained role – gave Himself for a sacrifice (Isaiah 53:3-6). In time He shed His blood (I Peter 2:24).

    1. The Holy Spirit begets our salvation through the new birth (John 3:3-7; Titus 3:5). In time He leads the lost to conviction and repentance (John 16:7-11).

    1. God Himself is our mediator (I Timothy 2:5).
