APRIL 9 – Why Sit Here Till We Die
2Kings 7:3 And there were four leprous men at the entering in of the gate: and they said one to another, Why sit we here until we die?
The setting of this passage will amplify upon the situation. Israel was under siege. The food was running out and the prospect of survival was slim indeed. Four lepers sat outside the gate and they were starving to death. They knew the famine was in the city so that was no help in the city. They knew if they sat where they were, they would die. They made the decision to go to the enemies camp at night to find if they would be accepted. They found the camp was empty.
As I thought about this and mulled and pondered the situation, our Churches came to mind. Why do we sit here, famished for souls to be saved and never do anything about it? We talk about how we love the lost and are famished because we do nothing about it. Some would rather die than go to the lost.
We must go to the enemies camp and present the gospel to them. We cannot sit and expect souls to be saved. What we forget is that God goes before us. Certainly, God was in the camp of the enemy before the Lepers were. That is why there was victory, not that they won the victory but God won the victory before they got there. That is the situation that we are in today. God has given us the victory before we got there. He always goes before us and prepares the way.
May we not die of hunger but simply wear ourselves out going where God has already given us the victory.
