FEBRUARY 2 – WHAT IS THAT IN THINE HAND

FEBRUARY 2 – WHAT IS THAT IN THINE HAND

Judges 3:31 And after him was Shamgar the son of Anath, which slew of the Philistines six hundred men with an ox goad: and he also delivered Israel.

How do we serve the Lord. We serve the Lord with what He has given us. Moses had a rod that turned into a snake. He also had his older brother as a mouthpiece to speak for Him. The one thing I have noticed about most people is, they can talk. Sunday after Church, my wife and I took another couple to lunch. The waitress showed us to a booth and as I passed the booth right behind where I was going to sit was a 9 month old boy in a high chair. I whistled at him and talked to him. That is the most natural thing in the world. It also made that young mom and dad light up with smiles. When they got up to leave it was natural to give them my card and invite them to bring their young man to church. The table next to ours had 4 young men and two young ladies that were eating hamburgers. When they had finished their food it was natural for me to ask how good that hamburger tasted. That hamburger got a good review. It is natural after a little small talk to invite the occupants of this table to the house of God. Our waitress was very friendly and liked to joke. Naturally she was invited to Church when she got a Sunday off.

What is your talent? I use people that have their hoods up in parking lots as an opportunity to invite to Church and hand out cards. What is in your hand? It should be used for the Lord. What talents do you have. Are you using them for the Lord. Smart phone, is that what you have in your hand right now? Do you make a list of those absent from church and call or text them. Use what is in your hand. Computer? Do you use it for the Lord. Sending email is a way to encourage people or let them know they were missed. There are apps that enable a group of people to receive messages and communicate. I use “Group me.” I have Church members on there that have smart phones and as I find people needing prayer, they go on this app. I put these devotionals on this app. I put names on this app of people who have missed Church so that cards are sent and calls made and texts sent. What is that in your hand? Your talent might be music, are you singing specials? Singing in choir?

So many talents go to waste. I knew a lady that sang in Church and had a beautiful voice. Another brother and me had to represent the Church in a visit to this ladies home to find out why they had not been in Church for a long time. Her husband replied, “she sings in nightclubs and of course she gets home very late and needs that time to sleep.” He said to take their names off the Church roll. Twelve years later, I met them in Church. I commented on the beauty of her singing. She said. I do not sing near as well as in the past. What a shame her talent was wasted on people impaired by alcohol.

What is that in your hand? Use it for the Lord.
