A man in a hospital asked his doctor, “How long must I suffer in this hospital?” The doctor replied, “One day at a time.” Oliver Wendell Holmes said, “Surely anybody can live beautifully, victoriously, for one day.”
I think a good New Year’s resolution to make is to live one day at a time. This is what Jesus taught in the model prayer, “Give us day by day our daily bread (Luke 11:3), and in the Sermon on the Mount, “Take therefore no thought for the morrow: (Matt. 6:34).
If you do not live one day at a time, you will find yourself worrying about the future, or dreaming of magical rose garden in the distance while overlooking the flowers blooming at your door. If you will pray 365 times this year, “Give us day by day our daily bread,” and not worry about yesterday or tomorrow, this will be the greatest year of your life.
