Having Done All—Stand

Ephesians 6:10-13

Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand,” Ephesians 6:13.

In my youngest son’s house there is a unique game table on which the family plays the outrageously fun domino game, “42.” In the center of the round table, in inlaid wood veneer, there is a three foot Texas star. Around the star are the words Texas Brocks, Dirk, Jason, Wade. These three wonderful sons know they are a set. They have loved, cared and prayed for each other all their lives. If one brother is missing at a family gathering, there is a strange aura of incompleteness. The two present brothers will call the missing brother to let him know what’s going on so that he may feel a part.

The armor of God comes in a set. The phrase having done all implies that a Christian must not leave out any one of the set or some part of his life will be vulnerable to attack. God has given His children the tools of battle. In the strength of Christ, armed with truth, righteousness, the gospel, faith, salvation, the Word of God and prayer, we are prepared to stand toe-to-toe with Satan’s army. No one accidentally puts on Christ’s armor. Growing in Christian grace and strength is a deliberate choice. “Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil” (Eph. 6:11). On the battlefield with spiritual warfare raging all around, it is a waste of breath to ask Satan for time-out while you put on your armor. Put on your armor, take heart and fight on. You are on the winning side.

The victory is in the person of Jesus Christ, the captain of our salvation.
